North Pacific Beaches

NORTH PACIFIC
The Northern Pacific, comprising the Province of Guanacaste and the Nicoya Peninsula, is a region where the figure of the “sabanero” stands out, with his joviality and skill in handling cattle. The “fiestas patronales” (county fairs), corridas (bullfights) and bull ridings are a must in the region.

Geologically, the region boasts some of the country’s oldest formations: the caverns of Barra Honda National Park with its many stalactites and stalagmites are an excellent example. Some of the region’s protected areas provide wildlife species protection and constitute observation areas of great interest. The Northern Pacific offers some of the best places to practice sport fishing. Ocean currents bring deep-ocean nutrients to surface plankton, which attract swordfish, marlin and dorado.

GUANACASTE REGION
The beaches located in the Guanacaste region offer many options for adventure and recreation. For those who like sunbathing, the area boasts sunshine almost all year round. You can enjoy swimming, diving, surfing, windsurfing, fishing, beach volleyball and golf. The gastronomy of Guanacaste has a strong indian influence. The products of the area are mainly based on maize, including “bizcochos” or biscuits, “tortillas”, “pozol” and rice with maize. If you have a sweet tooth, you should try the popular “cajetas”.
